12 WWE Criticisms That Make No Damn Sense

By Erik Beaston /

1. "Vince McMahon Doesn't Know What He's Doing Anymore"

The most common criticism that faces today's WWE involves Vince McMahon and what many presume is a lack of understanding when it comes to putting forth a quality product in today's wrestling landscape. "He doesn't have his finger on the pulse of the industry anymore," they say. "He's too old," they argue. And while their may be some validity to that, it is difficult to make sense of those arguments when the company continues to make money hand over fist, despite rapidly declining television ratings. The fact of the matter is, McMahon is a masterful businessman who understands where the company is going and what is necessary to continue its growth. Money from live events and pay-per-views are down? No problem, sign a television deal with India. WWE Network struggles with early subscriptions? Get into bed with another sponsor to make some additional add revenue. Increase the company's visibility by putting a greater emphasis on social media. Get behind a young star (Seth Rollins) and push him as hard as possible, then stay the course so that when business does pick up, he has an established star to build around. While one look at today's WWE product appears to be a shell of its former self, McMahon has done enough wheeling and dealing to ensure the long-term prosperity of his baby, even if he has a less-than stellar creative track record of late.
