2. Leaving Las Vegas

In late 1999 the virtuous, unspoiled version of Stephanie McMahon was in an onscreen relationship with Test, the massive future not-actually-the-next-big-thing-at-all. The two were set to marry. Where? In the middle of the ring on Monday Night RAW, of course. Where else? Well, it turned out that there was another place that a pro wrestling couple could get married: at a cheap drive-thru wedding chapel in Vegas. Ultra-heel Triple H explained as much when he crashed Test and Stephanie€™s wedding with some home movie footage of his own wedding€ to the bride herself.Apparently he€™d slipped her a mickey in a drink at her bachelorette party, waited until she passed out, kidnapped her and took her to go get married, turning his back to the €˜minister€™ and putting on a funny voice whenever the clearly unconscious Steph was required by law to say something. There are so many holes in this that it actually seems uncharitable to point them all out: it€™d be like mocking someone with a stutter. What€™s important is that the angle ruined the wedding and set Triple H up as a douchecanoe of staggering proportions, which were the two main criteria for success. What with this and the whole Katie Vick thing, the Game appears slightly obsessed with parading overlong, badly shot footage with massively rapey overtones in front of the WWF/E audience. We should all be pretty thankful that NXT isn€™t just forty-five minutes of weekly college party porn.
