Surely the words "Greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time" have some meaning behind them. While Honky's role was that of a punchable coward, his unmatched fifteen month reign as Intercontinental champion drew big money on the house show circuit in 1987-88. People plunked down good scratch in the hopes of getting to personally witness his undoing. In a modern era where heels get lots of love for ironic reasons or for their wit, Honky thrived in his time as an unlikable blowhard that disingenuously thanked the fans for their patronage to see him perform. He knew his role, and he played it very well. Granted, if Honky were in his prime today, he'd be cheered for smashing his six-stringer over Roman Reigns' head, but honestly, who wouldn't be?
