In 1980s WWE, former AWA Champion Martel was one-half of two prolific tag teams. The first, The Can-Am Connection with Tom Zenk, held such promise in the first half of 1987 that the two were penciled in as the ones to unseat the Hart Foundation for the Tag Team belts. That was, until Zenk quit the company that July. Martel picked things up with Tito Santana as Strike Force, and they would instead be the ones to go over on the Harts for the gold that October. Martel was always a gifted technician, able to display babyface fire as good as anyone, or play the sniveling villain just as masterfully. Fans may be more likely to remember his exploits as "The Model" in the nineties, but Martel more than qualifies for this list with his eighties body of work.
