17. Save Me? More Like Shave Me

In 2002 and 2003, one man€™s quest to bring back the Tutankhamun beard went above and beyond, into the realms of obsession and madness. Chris Jericho's ridiculous goatee defied logic, common sense and all laws of man and nature. At its height (depth?), the beard reached what looked like a full five or six inches, and was often dragged together in a makeshift knot at his chin, as though its master had sworn to punish it for some imagined transgression. When you combine that with the long hair, often tied up in a topknot or a ponytail, you€™re looking at a dated crime against all forms of style, everywhere. Some say that it was simply Jericho€™s way of accruing greater and greater heel reactions from the crowd, but if so then it was the beard which had the heat, not the man.
