Before Funk officially broke his latest retirement to don the attire of Chainsaw Charlie, an idea came about that would see him renew his ultraviolent rivalry with Cactus. The proposal would see Cactus and Funk battle to an extent never before seen in the WWF, even in a time when the company was ramping up its own violent levels. The plan would be that Funk and Cactus would tape their match sometime in the week before WrestleMania, and the match would be inserted into the card itself. Why? Because the idea was to pit the two in a barbed-wire, exploding-ring deathmatch at Funk's Double Cross Ranch in Amarillo, TX. It would never come to that, as Cactus and 'Chainsaw' teamed up to face the New Age Outlaws.
