20 WTF WCW Moments

3. The Outsiders Attack Eric Bischoff

A far better introduction to the WCW main event scene came in the form of 'The Outsiders'. Scott Hall's shocking appearance on Nitro was big enough, but when he brought Kevin Nash along with him, people really started to take notice. At The Great American Bash 1996 show, the dangerous incomers thumped Eric Bischoff, sending a statement. Nash infamously nailed Bischoff with a Powerbomb off the entrance ramp. The wrestling world was starting to take notice of what was happening in WCW, and Hall and Nash came across as a big threat. There were also clear overtones that Vince McMahon had sent them from the WWF, which caused legal problems for the promotion. Away from the court room, fans responded well to the invasion angle. By attacking Bischoff, a harmless announcer, The Outsiders looked like thugs. However, they were dangerous, and WCW needed a storyline which came across as cool and fresh. Nash's Powerbomb to Bischoff delivered that, and set the wheels in motion for what would become the nWo.
