21. Bob Holly Buries Gangrel
It’s not been an iconic return for Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland since 2020, hasn’t it?
While he finally lived up to his legacy in 2026 as part of a very fun act with best friend Christian Cage, in which Cage forgets that he’s not a heel anymore every single week, it was rough sledding for a long while. He spent too much time referencing his own history to a point at which it felt masturbatory. Bringing back ‘Brood Edge’ was the nadir of this trend.
Fans of a certain age enjoyed the Brood’s entrance. That was about the extent of it. If you actually watched the Brood in real time, you’d know that the act was never over. Not only that: Edge and Christian only got over when they worked an arrogant goofball gimmick tonally antithetical to the Brood. In Edge’s most embarrassing moment as a performer, he cut a dreadful promo as part of the Brood in which he quite infamously said “The freaks…come out…at night!” before launching into an unscary movie monster laugh. So yes. The Brood were crap, nothing more than an entrance, sort of like if Jey Uso listened to Throbbing Gristle.
Vince McMahon famously didn’t get the Gangrel act, and few on the roster took the poor lad seriously, either.
In a segment built around Crash Holly’s fun super heavyweight gimmick, Hardcore Holly challenged Gangrel to hop on the scales. His request destroyed Gangrel’s aura and made Jerry Lawler piss himself.
“Hey Dracula, how about you, ya fat bastard - why don’t you get on there and see what you weigh?”
