25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2023
17. Adam Cole's Grand Slam Injury
We miss Adam Cole every single week.
The sad concussion injury that has kept him from actively wrestling is one of the biggest travesties of recent times. His career has been ravaged by injuries since he moved to AEW, but the one he picked up on the 20 September 2023 'Grand Slam' edition of Dynamite is so infuriating because it was entirely preventable.
During his cursed stories with MJF, Cole was making a run-in during the then-champion's defence against Samoa Joe at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Instead of running down the ramp to interfere, Cole leapt off the side of it for unknown reasons. In doing so, he injured his ankle so severely that he needed to receive a cadaver bone donation.
It meant Cole was unable to wrestle for more than an entire calendar year.
His next match wasn't until the 30 October 2024 Dynamite (a win over Buddy Matthews). AEW kept him onscreen because they needed him in the aftermath of their Devil storyline and to try (unsuccessfully) to make the Undisputed Kingdom faction work, but this injury happening due to a completely unnecessary stunt was a bummer for the performer and audience alike.
