25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2023
7. Jade Cargill's Undefeated Streak Ends
In an era when AEW's women's division was sorely lacking in star appeal, Jade Cargill shone like a beacon. She may not have had the in-ring chops of Hikaru Shida or Serena Deeb, but what she lacked in wrestling finesse she more than made up for with pure superstar aura.
Cargill had been booked like a monster in the company since her debut. Learning from WCW's classic Goldberg formula, Jade would tear through opponents in record time. This would culminate in becoming the first TBS Champion and going on a 16-month reign of terror with the title. Cargill blew past everyone like it was a breeze (with only one match with Marina Shafir ever going longer than 10 mins).
After her title defence against Taya Valkyrie at Double Or Nothing, Cargill called out anyone else in the locker room who wanted to come and get some. That's when she was confronted by a returning Kris Statlander and pinned in 50 seconds. Rumours had been circulating that she had ambitions to leave for WWE, but this hastily organised surprise squash match felt like something out of the Vince McMahon school of booking.
It may have made Cargill look weak, but it also made AEW's already questionable booking of the women's division look even more cartoonish.
