25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2023
2. AEW Full Gear's Main Event
'Switchblade' Jay White is arguably at the head of the list when fans debate who is surely due a run at the top of the company. An all-rounder who can put on classic matches, lead a great faction, cut great promos, has a killer look and gets big crowd reactions, the New Zealander is one of pro wrestling's greatest talents. The main reason he is owed this run at the top is because of the abysmal booking he received in the main event of Full Gear 2023.
MJF had to defend the Ring Of Honor tag titles earlier in the evening with his partner, Samoa Joe against The Gunn Club, which he did successfully. The Gunns then attacked MJF with chairs, viciously shattering his leg and putting him in the hospital. After being taken away in an ambulance due to the severity of this assault, MJF was going to be unable to defend his AEW World Title in the main event vs. White.
Adam Cole was attempting to stand in for MJF in the main event, but the champion then arrived back at LA's Kia Forum just in time, driving the ambulance he was taken away in. Hobbling to the ring, he was able to overcome White and The Gunn Club to retain his title on one leg.
Keeping your champion strong and overcoming the odds is all part of the game, but this night made 'Switchblade' Jay look like an also-ran when he's anything but.
