3 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (July 9)

1. Seth Rollins Was Able To Shut Paul Heyman Up

The usual show opening promo was the best part of Smackdown this week because it led to a rare Smackdown appearance of the best talker in WWE, Paul Heyman. He was out there to mock WWE Champion Seth Rollins, who was in the ring alone, about how Brock Lesnar destroyed the Cadillac that Rollins "bought" for J&J Security. Lesnar also put both of them in the hospital too, at least in the storyline. What was great about the promo was how Rollins ended it with confidence that led to him shutting up Heyman. When Rollins asked Heyman who he thinks will walk out of Battleground, Heyman went into his routine ready to say "Brock Lesnar" in his unique way, but then Rollins told him to shut up. That generated a genuine reaction from the crowd, which has become pretty rare on Smackdown. Rollins confidently told him that he'll leave as the WWE Champion, not Lesnar. https://youtu.be/UGDpGFPSgBc The way Rollins delivered that promo was money. Heyman's not a wrestler, so he's not going to put him over by bumping, but Heyman standing there in silence was very telling because it makes it look like Rollins effectively shut him up. That's the problem with WWE booking these days. They should book Rollins more consistently than they do since he's holding the WWE Title. He should have that confidence on the microphone and in the ring and he should prove it by winning matches clean. Rollins should have followed up his awesome promo with a clean win over Ryback because that would have meant a lot. Instead, he lost by countout and ended up getting beat up after the match too. One step forward, two steps back.
