3. Women’s Title Match Closes Strong
There was a lot riding on the Women’s World Championship match: Iyo Sky’s match quality has seen a noticeable dip this year, while Liv Morgan has been neglecting her champion duties since winning the title at WrestleMania 42.
The two opened SummerSlam with a match that was threatening to be just a TV match on PLE until they hit a different gear after the Judgment Day interfered. Once Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez were neutralized, Liv and Iyo started breaking out the bombs. Liv kept going for Oblivion, while Iyo climbed up top for her Over the Moonsault multiple times.
They had a few really smooth exchanges down the stretch. Sky hit her own version of Oblivion for two, then her moonsault missed. Morgan capitalized with a Codebreaker for two, but she missed her finisher. Iyo smoothly joined Liv on the apron and hit her with a German suplex, then squished her against the ring post with a Bullet Train Attack.
When Liv went for Oblivion again, Iyo flipped out of it, but Morgan hit another Codebreaker and finally landed her finish for the win.
The strong second half took what was trending bang-average and turned it into a solid, fun, well-worked opener.
