5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (18 Sept - Results & Review)
2. Nick Aldis Sows Seeds For The Future
After all of the shenanigans with Gargano, Kevin Owens came out to argue that he should get a WWE Title shot instead. He ran through all of the “bad behaviour” Sami has exhibited for months now, then Zayn kinda’ lost his composure and grabbed Aldis by the suit jacket. That ticked the GM off, so he booked Sami vs. KO in the main event for the belt.
When closing, Nick said: “Your last WWE Title reign lasted 9 days. Let’s see if we can get past 7!”. What a snappy line that was, and the GM's delivery of it? Excellent. WWE has been slowly building towards Zayn vs. Aldis for a while now. It realistically doesn’t need to happen anytime soon, but it’ll be a lot of fun when it does, and it has PLE in the UK written all over it.
Hey, a fella can dream; Aldis challenging Sami for the WWE Title on home turf would certainly be a dream come true for the Brit. Better yet, it wouldn't feel like an exhibition. They've got a story here. The big burning question is obviously whether or not Zayn is still champ by the time the company books another major event in England. Probably not, being brutally honest, but it's a lovely thought.
These lads can still do top business even if the strap is elsewhere. There's enough distaste between them to make things work, 'cause Aldis is getting real sick and tired of Sami thinking he can push him around or force the issue whilst simultaneously acting like a total coward.
