50 Worst Wrestling Moments Of The 2020s (So Far)
47. Scrypts!
Sidney Bateman definitely has something as a wrestler.
Unashamedly flippy, as you’d expect from a top-class circus performer, it should have been very easy for WWE to market him - particularly since his work stood out in the promotion.
Instead, Vince McMahon booked him as a sommelier, and Shawn Michaels booked him as a hacker. The latter gimmick, Scrypts, was particularly shambolic. Michaels doesn’t receive anywhere near enough flak for his awful creative philosophy.
Scrypts was a poet fond of hacking and riddles. In one vignette, he penned the following verse:
“Your cameras couldn’t catch me
I got past your guards with ease
Now that I’m here everything after this will only be a breeze.”
With no hyperbole, this was more strained than a preteen’s early attempts at the form of poetry. The basic rhyme was also pathetic and illogical. Everything after this will only be a breeze? But he already got past the guards with ease. It was all a breeze to begin with!
Even if the poem was good, an earnest heel poet hacker was probably not going to get over. Scrypts, dead on arrival, did not get over.
A D grade in elementary poetry, his costume was an F in textiles. Weird flaps dangled from a mask that made your average social club BritWres luchador look like Hayabusa.
