The hard-hitter from Arizona had proven he can hang around some of the best fighters in UFC. He was able to stop Vick, Cerrone, and Barboza in his last three fights and now he believes he has earned the right to fight The Notorious Connor McGregor. The matchup does sound incredibly intriguing knowing that both men possess insane knockout power and interesting striking techniques.

McGregor's coach John Kavanagh told in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he wants McGregor to stay in welterweight unless there was a title shot but later added that a fight with Gaethje is indeed an interesting prospect for Connor. Out of all the potential fights, Gaethje indeed presents a big challenge for The Notorious since besides the crazy power in his fists he is a decorated wrestler with an incredible ground game, the biggest challenge for McGregor in the past.

One thing that makes the fight less appealing for Connor is the fact that Gaethje doesn't have a title around his waist or any personal history with the Irish fighter that could've made for an interesting confrontation. Without any of those elements, the fight might just not have the scale or the attention that McGregor got used to.
