1. Another Bout That Felt More TV Than PLE
Like Karrion Kross and Sami Zayn before them, Asuka and Jade Cargill tried. Of course they did - no WWE pair will hit the ring these days without maximum effort, especially when they know they're in a contendership bout and vying for the Queen Of The ring crown. It's also hardly like the duo had a horrible match either. However, it didn’t feel nearly as epic as the men’s tournament final, and the card formatting put them far too close to the old “death spot” handed down to WWE’s women pre-main events many moons ago.
This was not an advantageous placement for Jade or Asuka.
Cargill winning was the right call, 'cause there's a lot to dig into with Naomi still, but this was another purely functional match that easily could’ve been housed on Raw instead of a PLE. Post-match, Jade's inspiring promo alongside Byron Saxton didn't quite hit the way she might've wanted it to. Think Nia Jax at WrestleMania 34; Cargill spoke of people believing in themselves and ignoring the haters.
Perhaps the most damning thing one could say about the match is that you only needed to see the end result. Knowing that Cargill hit Jaded to score the win is enough. The main meat of the thing was ten-a-penny action you'd see on any number of WWE episodes throughout the year. It's an important rep for Jade though, that much is true.
Again, not crap, but not really essential either. Trips would point out that Jade's victory is the most valuable thing. He could be right, but it's still getting a 'Down'.
