3. It's Really Hard To Care When WWE Don’t
Axiom beating The Miz could be explained away as an olive branch for the Spanish worker whilst WWE are in Barcelona. However, it’s hard to shake the idea that creative will go back to forgetting Fraxiom even exists next week. So, whilst a watchable house show-style match, this was ultimately pointless and won't mean a thing for the product going forwards.
At least the house lights flickering keep Miz’s issues with Danhausen rolling for now, huh?
Spain was right up for Axiom, and some of Gunther's comments in the media heading into SmackDown (he called the tag-teamer one of WWE's best workers) proved kind, but...let's be honest here: Triple H and his weary writing team don't put a ton of thought into what Axiom and Nathan Frazer are going to be doing on that week's TV. They've been relegated to meaningless backstage fodder for the longest time, so it's tough to really invest as a viewer.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett put Axiom over as one of the most dynamic wrestlers fans are ever likely to see, but WWE is about more than in-ring work. You need presence, ample television time to develop character, and the fanbase needs to see that you're backed by a company that cares. Without that attention, you're only good for local spots like this one.
So, decent enough match, but one that'll mean sod all by the time Clash In Italy beams live around the globe on Sunday. Keep this sort of fare for the upcoming live events, guys.
