2. By The Numbers Tag Proves Uninteresting
Damian Priest has gone from working heated main events for the World Title to slumming it in matches that either play before lukewarm reactions or complete silence. It's been bizarre to watch his slide. Personally, this guy had real hopes for his odd couple tag-team with R-Truth, but things are a tad hit and miss depending on the week. Hmm. This was another example of that topsy turvy trend.
Priest teamed with Royce Keys (unwillingly) vs. Tama and Talla Tonga. Pretty much nothing of note happened until Truth ran in for an attempted save that blew up in his face and led to Damian eating a loss. Sure, everyone gets the story they’re telling here, but that doesn’t mean it’s particularly interesting to watch. Also, does anyone else still think Priest is coming across as a moron by claiming that Keys hasn’t been attacked by the MFTs when he has?
Like, it literally happened a week or so before Damian started moaning about that.
WWE appeared to drop the ongoing Tama and Shinsuke Nakamura narrative cold last week too, so that was a colossal waste of everyone's time. Honestly, do people behind the scenes ever stop to consider that it might be a bad plan to condition fans not to bother paying attention to sub-stories? That's what happened with Tonga and Naka. Nobody was rewarded for sitting through their promos.
The tag-team scene on SmackDown is in some state, man. Truth and Priest should be entertaining champs, but this tale with The MFT crew is as dull as they come.
