4. A Little Long & Boring For What It Was

Trick Williams is in a strange spot right now. He's kinda skirting a fine line as a tweener at the moment, so that didn't give poor Matt Cardona a hope in hell of getting a reaction out of fans on Friday. This Trick vs. Cardona match might as well have screamed, 'JUST GET TO WRESTLEMANIA, GUYS'. If the double turn between Williams and Sami Zayn happens there, then it'll be for the best.

Sadly, that seemingly inevitable play couldn't help Trick vs. Matt on SmackDown. Their bout was a little too drawn out, slow and inconsequential overall. Even the live crowd seemed confused as to what they were supposed to think or how WWE wanted them to react during the match. Sure, things picked up slightly before the end, but that wasn’t enough to push this into ‘Up’ territory.

It wasn't even close.

One thing Trick has to be mindful of is how dull his heat sections are. Obviously, that won't be as big of an issue if/when he goes babyface (because he won't need to get heat), but man - they're boring. He doesn't engage the crowd enough or really look like he's all that aggressive. It's paint by numbers stuff, and he's clearly better than that. Maybe Williams just isn't sure what WWE wants from him until the turn.

Cardona isn't mega-important to the cause in 2026, but he could use a little something extra to jolt fans out of their slumbers when he's on screen. Hanging around with Apollo Crews backstage ain't it, basically.
