2. A €˜Dream€™ Match?

Give WWE some credit: The company is trying really hard to make a match between Triple H and Sting seem like an epic encounter that is years in the making. They€™ve (rightly) painted Sting as the face of WCW and then had Triple H describe himself as one of the reasons WCW went out of business as a vital cog in the Attitude Era. It€™s a stretch, but it€™s at least something, right? But why is Sting here? And what beef does he have with Triple H? Is the Stinger defending the honor of WCW? Did Triple H shun Sting at some point? Sometimes, you can get away with having a big match €œjust because.€ And sometimes, you don€™t even need words to set up a feud. Sting never spoke in the lead-up to his WCW World Championship title match against Hollywood Hogan at Starrcade 1997. But that match worked because Sting was fighting for the honor of WCW and to dethrone Hogan. We have no idea what is going on here. Sting showed up at Survivor Series and cost Triple H and Stephanie McMahon their jobs (for five weeks). He then interfered in a match to help save John Cena€™s Royal Rumble title shot and get three wrestlers€™ jobs back. That€™s it. So why is Sting fighting Triple H? Will stipulations be added during the next five weeks? Why should we care about this match at all, other than it€™s never happened? Or is that all that€™s needed these days?
