Regular readers of this column know that this writer has very little tolerance for WWEs annual partnership with Susan G. Komen every October and many of the breast cancer-related segments that air that month. Its over-the-top pandering and self-congratulatory backslapping.

But one segment that rang true was that of Joan Lunden sharing her story about surviving breast cancer. It was a simple, direct, heartfelt appeal to fans and viewers, and the crowd reacted well to it when she spoke on Raw.

So when it was announced Monday that Lunden would receive the WWEs Warrior Award for her advocacy for breast cancer awareness, it made sense and was a welcome decision. For better or worse, WWE is engrossed in breast cancer awareness, and Lunden is as good of an ambassador for the company to recognize as any other.
