6 Ups And 9 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Oct 5th)

2. Finally, Something Fresh

It€™s funny to think of two guys who have been on WWE€™s roster for nearly a decade together as a fresh matchup, but that€™s exactly what we€™re looking at with Dolph Ziggler and John Cena, who presumably began a program together after an errant Ziggler superkick put Cena down Monday night. Ziggler and Cena had a memorable feud in late 2012 into January 2013 over Ziggler€™s Money in the Bank briefcase (punctuated by AJ Lee turning on Cena to cost him a ladder match for the briefcase). But they haven€™t faced off against each other in one-on-one competition in more than two-and-a-half years. Since then, Ziggler has become a massive fan favorite (though an underachieving one), while Cena has reinvented himself as a workrate fiend. A feud between the two over Cena€™s United States Championship could be interesting, especially if WWE doesn€™t go the route of turning Ziggler heel, and especially if WWE doesn€™t tie in the Total Divas storyline of Ziggler hitting on Cena€™s girlfriend (and Dolph€™s ex) Nikki Bella. If that happens, then this storyline will occupy the #1 €œdown€ spot for the foreseeable future. But as a straight feud between two popular stars who have forged alliances in the past and can go in the ring, this could be really good. At the very least, it gets Ziggler away from his dead-end feud with Rusev.
