World Wrestling Entertainment are a huge, multi-million dollar company. The technology available to the promotion is likely embarrassing. Only the best, most cutting-edge devices will do for Vince McMahon and his staff. It's therefore utterly baffling that the organisation don't equip their ring announcers with in-ear pieces for the purpose of communication. According to former announcer Justin Roberts, he only briefly used one during his run with the promotion from 2002-2014. This means that Roberts rarely had the ability to receive messages from the backstage area. Instead, he had to rely on hand signals from the timekeeper to keep abreast of any changes to the card or time limitations. Such an archaic system is completely unnecessary in this day and age. It wouldn't have taken much expense for WWE to give Roberts an ear piece, and it would have eliminated the risk of mistakes easily. Even more unbelievably, Justin noted during a recent appearance on the Jim Ross podcast that he would sound check an in-ear device before shows. The thing was then never switched on when the show went live, rendering it useless.
