7 Terrible Wrestling Gimmicks That SOMEHOW Got Over
7. The Undertaker
As a populous, there is a very specific way that wrestling fans take The Undertaker for granted. The Deadman is a first-draft Hall of Famer under every single metric, responsible for some of the most iconic matches and moments in wrestling history. Which is wild, considering how utterly mental his gimmick was.
Imagine a wrestler turning up in 2026 as an actual zombie who gets his power from an inanimate object. This gimmick evolved and moved away from no-selling moves via Paul Bearer and his urn, but never strayed from the fact that 'Taker drew on mystical energy to summon his powers. It quite simply should not have worked, but not a single person ever questions his gimmick because he embodied it.
As if this wasn't bananas enough, one day he just emerged looking like a member of a biker gang, and we all accepted it. No reason given, no explanation for going from Satanic cowls and darkness to Hell's Angel. We just shrugged and said, "Okay." His entrance music went from an ominous church pipe organ (or creepy guitars if we're talking Ministry-era Undertaker) to Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit, and we said nothing. This is how much of a master of suspending belief that Mark Calloway is.
