6. Danhausen & The Miz Just Work
It's always nice to report on WWE comedy done right. The promotion has sought laughs in crummy pre-tapes or by using toilet humour aplenty over the years, but Danhausen is genuinely funny and endearing. What's more, The Miz is fabulous foil for him, because his delusional arrogance and self-aggrandising behaviour is a neat fit for Hausen's OTT spookiness and silliness when giving bad guys comeuppance.
Skits involving both at Miz's house, including a welcome cameo from Maryse, added nice levity to SmackDown. Then, their match out in the arena (whilst short) was another barrel of laughs. This guy has to admit he got it badly wrong when he said that Danhausen would be demoted to NXT by now after a poor Elimination Chamber debut. He deserves a lot of praise for how over he’s been getting, and WWE/TKO will be loving the merch sales.
There was another giggle-worthy moment when Joe Tessitore called it “a quickhausen” after the finish too. Everything the duo tried here was overtly silly, but that’s the point, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the company reaching for some silly string when it feels natural and isn't forced against fan wishes. People seem to adore Danhausen, so why not use him in this fashion?
It's way, way, way better than the old 24/7 Title guff, put it that way.
Getting Kit Wilson in on the act and maintaining his promising double trouble thing with The Miz was also sweet to see. This is working out well for everybody, and that doesn't happen often enough in wrestling. Got to love it when everyone wins and gets some character development.
