7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE WrestleMania I
1. New Champions? PHOOEY!
The risk of watching shows even a decade old - not least three - is that, robbed of context, the matches may not mean much. Wrestling as an artform is both something that needs to capture the frenzy of the moment but ideally survive the ravages of time, and it's for this contest's failure to achieve the latter that it lands in the negative column.
The heat is sensational for typical evil foreigners The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff when they dethrone babyface pretty boy tag champions The U.S Express, but the limited duo aren't particularly able to sustain it during the contest itself.
This results in a frenetic finishing sequence that somehow feels unearned. It is at least one of the show's notable shock results, but even that doesn't help it survive the most context-friendly rewatch.
