7. Briefcase Albatross Put To Rest
For better or worse, the plot twist that is the Money in the Bank briefcase was put to rest Monday night.
The briefcase has become somewhat of an unwieldy plot device, as the whole surprise cash-in has been done to death for more than a decade. We were starting to see the issues crop up last week when Braun Strowman announced he was going to cash in at SummerSlam and again the next night on Raw. Both times, the attempts were foiled.
So Monday, rather than tease a cash-in, Strowman simply announced he was using the MITB briefcase for a title shot at Hell in a Cell. Later on, he handed over the briefcase to acting GM Baron Corbin, putting the issue to bed.
At least now we won’t spend the next three weeks wondering if Braun would try to get a surprise title shot.
