When Dino Bravo bleached his brown hair blonde and launched a new "World's Strongest Man" gimmick in the mid-1980s, he also changed his ring style. Gone were the technical nuances that had made Bravo a success in his native Canada, and in their place was a new, power-based style.

That "Strong Man" character would become a hallmark of Dino's run in the WWF. After winding down his career in the early-'90s, Bravo retreated to Montreal and began training aspiring wrestlers. On the side, it's rumoured that he became heavily involved in a cigarette smuggling ring.

That caught the eye of the Mafia.

On 10 March 1993, Bravo (aged just 44) was shot dead in his Quebec home. In interviews since, Bret Hart has claimed that Dino confided in friends that his "days were numbered". Similarly, Rick Martel has said that Bravo's notoriety as a pro wrestler helped him smuggle, and the mob weren't pleased that Dino was scooping up their business.

Regardless of allegations, the murder remains unsolved.
