7 WWE NXT Takeover Main Event Matches - From Worst To Best
From Arrival to Brooklyn, where does each NXT Takeover main event rank?
It was recently announced that Sasha Banks will invoke her rematch clause against Bayley for the NXT Women's Championship at the brand's next special event live on the WWE Network, NXT Takeover: Respect, to take place on 7th of October 2015.
This week, Triple H broke the news via Twitter that the two extremely talented women will not only compete in a 30-Minute Iron Woman Match with the championship on the line, but for the very first time, the women will be competing in the main event at NXT Takeover.
The event series is renowned in the wrestling industry for showcasing some of the best wrestling matches that the WWE has to offer. Guys like Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze have helped the show to grow in popularity, to the point that it can now go on international tours, as we see with the UK Tour in December.
Next month, Bayley and Sasha Banks will join the list of wrestlers to compete in the main event for the grandest prize in their division, and in an effort to create excitement for the unprecedented match-up, I've gone back and re-watched every main event match to take place at NXT Takeover.
Let's take a look at each headlining match in the event's history, in order from worst to best.
7. Kevin Owens Vs. Sami Zayn - NXT Takeover: Unstoppable
The second match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn wasn’t bad by any means, but there were a number of things that made it a lot less significant than the first, and overall less enjoyable.
We did get to see the debut of Samoa Joe right after the match, which was something we never thought we’d see take place in a WWE ring, but as for the Owens/Zayn bout, it was kind of disappointing compared to the first match.
The fight itself was a lot shorter than we’ve grown accustomed to in NXT main events. Sami Zayn brought way more offence this time around, taking the fight to Owens with a vengeance, but the end result was sudden and too obvious.
Owens won when he took Zayn out with a pop-up powerbomb on the ring apron, and we haven’t seen Sami since. The shoulder injury suffered shortly before the match made it easy to predict that Zayn wouldn’t emerge victorious in this one, and that Owens would find a way to write him off TV for the time being.
it wasn’t bad, but I do think it was the weakest out of all the NXT special main events so far. There has to be one, right?
