8 Incredible Ideas WWE Abandoned IMMEDIATELY

WWE blows a CM Punk dream match, ruins a debut and drops a WrestleMania story COLD!

WWE's booking has become a hotter and hotter subject over the course of the last year. After an initial honeymoon period where Paul Levesque felt like the king of the pro wrestling world, the knives and back and sharpened towards toe pros and cons of the stories and direction that WWE are prioritising. One of the biggest frustrations across both Vince McMahon's booking and this new regime is that stories are forgotten about before they've even had the chance to begin.

This is a long-term problem in WWE, and the most frustrating part of all is that some of these ides feel like they have real gold in them. If an angle is tried out and can't find a place in the hearts of fans, that's understandable, but all too often these creative whims are killed before they've reached their full potential.

From shocking heel turns and teased feuds, to unfulfilled romances and beyond, this list contains a calvacade of untapped angles that were ended far too hastily. Who knows, maybe one day we'll find out who was behind GTV after all...

8. John Cena And The Rock's Two Man Power Trip

In retrospect, John Cena's heel turn was largely a disaster, but the reason it was a disaster is all too often overlooked. The babyface of all babyface's shock turn at Elimination Chamber 2025 was executed brilliantly. Coming like a scene from Goodfellas, The Rock gave the signal to Cena to drop and assault Cody Rhodes after The American Nightmare rebuffed The Final Boss's offer of a lifetime to become his very own corporate champion.

No matter how many interviews and revisionist history takes The Rock gives, he was the catalyst for Cena's heel turn. The whole point of the moment he turned heel was that The Rock was offering to "open unlocked doors", rows of private jets and cars, and the opportunity to share in his universally recognized power. And then he disappeared and hasn't been part of a storyline since.

The idea of Cena and The Rock forming a power bond was a large part of what made his heel turn so exciting. Two of the most popular and successful superstars of all time, reigning terror on Cody Rhodes and helping Cena to defeat all comers as he sought to leave WWE with their championship for good was a great idea and an exciting hook for the rest of the year. Only The Rock didn't return; instead, he gave a nonsensical comment that he "wasn't needed at WrestleMania 41" after being at the center of Cena's heel turn, leaving John's heel turn rudderless.
