Part of the thrill of seeing NXT comes from knowing you are watching the performers transition into WWE superstars. Of course, the roster will fluctuate. The goal isn’t for a wrestler to stay in NXT forever. Fans want to see their favorites make waves on bigger stages.

However, a severe lack of familiarity can be detrimental to a show, causing it to lose some steam as it tries to rebuild with the next set of top stars. For instance, while in most cases the call-ups are more spread apart, 2017 saw a large chunk of NXT arrive on the main roster, such as Samoa Joe, Austin Aries, The Revival, and Shinsuke Nakumura. Perhaps not coincidentally, 2017 also saw declining ticket sales of around $1 million.
