8 Things WWE Want You To Ignore About NXT

2. Better Than The Big Guys

One comment often made is that NXT tends to put on a much better show than that of the main roster. NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn was largely seen as being better than SummerSlam. The match between Johnny Gargano and Andrade "Cien" Almas during NXT Takeover: Philadelphia, received a 5-star rating by Dave Meltzer, the first for WWE since 2011.

On its own, being told you’re better than RAW and SmackDown Live should be seen as a compliment, if not an honor. But, unfortunately, the chairman of WWE doesn’t it see it that way.

It’s not difficult to imagine McMahon would like fans to believe his main eventers are more entertaining than the up-and-comers —that’s why the big guys get paid more. But his dislike of the NXT’s popularity doesn’t end there.

In addition to not watching the yellow brand, reports over the years claim he also believes the hype surrounding NXT is “overrated.” Following suit, many acts he allegedly wasn’t fond of, such as The Vaudevillians and Tyler Breeze, never made much of an impact after being called up to the main roster. Breeze was a particularly interesting failure, as he had fallen to the bottom of the card by the time WWE designed his journey from NXT to the main roster.

While McMahon might prefer that his flagship shows are seen as higher quality products than his third brand, the disconnect between WWE and NXT may one day cease to exist, as even the chairman has claimed the company might be in better hands once he “kicks it.”
