The next big things in wrestling...and why they might go horribly wrong

Speculation is constantly part of a pro wrestling fan's existence. Sometimes that involves excitedly predicting the future and looking forward to all the in-ring delights that might be on the way. Other times, our thoughts turn to worrying about the impending car crash that's hurtling into view. This is a list that concentrates on the latter, as some of the matches and feuds that we can see on the horizon fill us with an enormous sense of dread.

From rivalries that look set to explode in the near future, all the way to WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia next year, some matches seem sure to stink out the pro wrestling world and have fans steaming with rage. This can all change in a heartbeat, of course, but these upcoming contests are going to need a whole lot of work to avoid becoming the latest disaster that sets tongues wagging all over the world.

From retirements to new call-ups, and from modern rivalries to ones decades in the making, these are the matches that may well be doomed before a single punch has been thrown.

8. Blake Monroe vs Tiffany Stratton

The arrival of Mariah May felt like one of the most significant signings that WWE had made in years. Her feud with 'Timeless' Toni Storm is one of the best in AEW history, and at just 27 years old, May’s potential is stratospheric.

Since arriving in NXT and undergoing her name change, Blake Monroe has felt far less convincing than the devious harlot we saw in Tony Khan’s company. Maybe it was just a bad fit for her in WWE’s “third brand”, but fans are noticeably less enthused by Monroe than they were this time last year.

Tiffany Stratton has also cooled drastically since returning to WWE at this year's Royal Rumble. She may have just won the US title from Giulia, but not being a part of this year’s WrestleMania felt significant. Her crowd reactions are noticeably quieter, and with rumors of a feud with Blake Monroe on the cards, this feels like a pivotal moment for both ladies. There is no doubting that the talent is there for this to be a barn-burner, but this program is going to have to hit the ground running with both Monroe and Stratton struggling for momentum as we approach 2026’s halfway point.
