For the past few years, WWEs kickoff shows have included a preview match, a pre-PPV bout to get the crowd fired up before the official beginning of the show. In some cases, titles have been defended on the show, and in others, its just a grudge match. Sundays six-man tag match featured two former world champions (one of whom is the current Money in the Bank briefcase holder), a current King of the Ring and three other very talented and popular stars. The match was a rematch of a thrown-together tag match on Raw. No stakes were involved in this match. So the question has to be asked: What was the point of this match? Its tough to say that without sounding like youre denigrating the participants, but think about it like this: Did this match change anything in the grand scheme of things for any of the six men (angle-wise)? Did it further a storyline? The answer is not really. Yes, the performance of one man in the match did catch fire with the crowd (more on that later), but the outcome could have been reversed and nothing really would have changed. Thats never a good sign when asking if a match had a point or purpose.
