Looking at the field for the female MITB match, the obvious choices to win are Natalya (to then slow-burn a feud with Ronda Rousey), Ember Moon (just because of her freshness), Becky "Sting" Lynch (to lead into a heel turn for Charlotte Flair) or Sasha Banks (who badly needs something meaningful to do aside from that dreary Bayley business).
Naomi and Alexa Bliss are solid outside bets. As for Lana? Well, she'd be a complete shock, and not a good one.
As the least accomplished wrestler in the octet, Lana would be a terrible choice to be Miss. MITB. On one hand, it might make sense, because her weaknesses could be protected by quickly cashing in and then losing to her first major challenger, but what's the point? The briefcase needs credibility.
As logical a story as it was, James Ellsworth pulling the case down last year had some reaching for the sick bags. WWE can't afford to undermine the gimmick with another poor moment, and that's what Lana holding it would do.
