4. Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose)

When The Shield arrived in WWE, attacking anyone who got in their way like a pack of rabid dogs, Jon Moxley's Dean Ambrose character shone for all of the right reasons. His promo style had shades of Heath Ledger's Joker as he threatened the entire WWE landscape with a psychotic, wide-eyed glee. If you were to place money on any of The Shield's members succeeding as a solo star based upon the character they'd created, Ambrose would have been most fans' pick for justified reasons.

Sadly, it felt as though Vince McMahon never understood Mox's concept for Ambrose.

Where Moxley saw Ambrose as an unhinged agent of chaos, McMahon seemed to have Dean pegged as some kind of wacky goofball. His 'Lunatic Fringe' nickname made no sense, and his stories got increasingly silly over time, including feuding with Chris Jericho over a potted plant.

As such, Moxley grew frustrated with what was being asked of him. Whether it was stealing local hot dog carts or mocking the audience for being infected, the original brilliance of Ambrose was replaced with a silliness that couldn't be further from what fans over in AEW have come to expect from Moxley's vision for himself.
