8 Career-Ending WWE Disasters
6. Shane Douglas as The Dean
After being something of a journeyman wrestler around WWE and WCW, Shane Douglas found his groove as one of the first true success stories of Paul Heyman's ECW. A truly despicable heel, Douglas was one of the most reliable heat magnets in Philadelphia, as he continually provoked the audience known as the smartest fans in wrestling.
Much like a lot of ECW's success stories, this caught the eye of Vince McMahon. As he was looking to inject some star power into the flailing New Generation, Douglas felt like someone who could bring some mean street cred to a roster full of childish slop. Only McMahon gave Douglas a gimmick from hell after hiring him in 1995.
Quite what about his glory days in the Triple Threat made Vince think that Douglas should play a ticked-off teacher called The Dean is anyone's guess. Douglas was forced to grade wrestlers in an attempt to belittle them in a pure show of everything that wasn't working for McMahon during this period. These wacky, cartoonish gimmicks were a curse for any performer asked to play one of these ridiculous roles, and Shane Douglas rotted in WWE before returning to ECW in 1996.
