9 Reasons WWE Should Bring Back The Cruiserweight Championship

4. It Would Make SmackDown Special Again If It Was Only Shown On That Program

One of the best parts of the Brand Extension era was when there was one distinct championship on each show. Raw focused on the Women€™s Championship while SmackDown had the Cruiserweight Championship. One of the reasons Smackdown was so enjoyable during the Paul Heyman era was due to the presence of the cruiserweights. With SmackDown becoming less relevant and suffering from increasingly worse presentation as the weeks go by, there€™s a desperate need to do something to make the show feel special. With the show switching channels in 2016, this presents WWE with a golden opportunity to provide something special for the brand that would increase viewership: having a re-established Cruiserweight Championship, showcased exclusively on SmackDown. Placing the belt solely on SmackDown would give people an incentive to watch the blue brand once again. If the belt is only showcased once a week, it can be used as a special draw of sorts that can increase fan interest in an otherwise repetitive program. Of course, this would depend on WWE actually booking the Cruiserweight Championship as a title worth showcasing. But given how the belt helped make SmackDown a better show than RAW during the early years of the Brand Extension era, WWE would be foolish not to use whatever means necessary to elevate the blue brand right now.
