9 Ups & 3 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (27 May)
1. Fix The Mistakes
Oof.
Decay vs. Johnny Swinger and Hernandez was utterly dire. A needless match if there ever was one, the match struggled to ever get going, really; essentially, it was any modern-day Johnny Swinger match.
Swinger and Hernandez simply aren’t enjoyable as a tandem. At one point, ‘The Swing Man’ got on the latter’s shoulders, shook a lot, jumped down, and flopped onto Crazzy Steve in what looked like the actual plan all along. Black Taurus flying wonderfully around the ring wasn’t enough to save this.
Steve’s attempted diving DDT on Swinger as the match-winning move was botched beyond botched. Being very clearly edited, Swinger bent forward slightly before taking a back bump(?) from a DDT. Keep in mind IMPACT is a pre-taped show, meaning this easily could have been reshot to look cleaner and crisper. Leaving it in looks sloppy. There’s no saving a Johnny Swinger match, of course, but this was such a simple fix to make.
What made this worse, though, is that Josh Mathews insisted that Steve connected with all of it. Literally, any other announcer would point out that the person executing the move didn’t fully connect, as D-Lo Brown attempted to do, but not Josh Mathews.
