Needless to say, John Cena wasn't even close to being ready to return by Cyber Sunday in late October. It was at that show Randy Orton had his first scheduled WWE Championship defense against a returning Shawn Michaels. Perhaps Orton and Michaels were going to rekindle their rivalry regardless of whether it was over the gold or not, but putting the title at stake made the feud that much more heated. The Heartbreak Kid put up a valiant fight against The Viper but failed to take home the title after Orton got himself disqualified. The rest of the event wasn't too shabby, either, as Batista and The Undertaker faced off and Triple H fought Umaga in a Street Fight. Despite an appearance from Stone Cold Steve Austin in the main event World Heavyweight Championship match, pay-per-view buys were significantly down from the year prior, though.
