Backstage Details On Why WWE Scrapped Top SummerSlam 2022 Match
Real injury or kayfabe injury? That is the question, WWE.
Seth Rollins vs. Riddle was pulled from the SummerSlam 2022 card on Wednesday, with WWE announcing the decision through its chat show, The Bump.
An injury to Riddle following Rollins' attack on him during Monday's episode of Raw was cited as the reason. Per the announcement, the former UFC fighter suffered a "brachial plexus injury" as a result of the assault, meaning he is medically disqualified from competing until his strength returns.
This immediately raised the question of whether or not the injury was legitimate - and no, it isn't.
Fightful Select reports that Riddle's situation is kayfabe. WWE still plans on having him wrestle Rollins in the future, but moved away from the SummerSlam bout as a "creative adjustment."
Talent were told of the decision on Monday. WWE's current working plan is for Riddle vs. Rollins to take place at Clash at the Castle on 3 September, though this isn't rubber-stamped yet.
Nonetheless, Rollins is still expected to be in Nashville, Tennessee over SummerSlam weekend and is still lined up for media obligations the night before the show (2 September). Whether or not he will get an alternative opponent for the premium live event is unclear.
