Backstage Update On This Week's WWE Raw Production Botch
More on Michael Cole's "16-time champion" line during Drew McIntyre's WWE Raw entrance.
Fightful Select have confirmed that Michael Cole's "16-time champion" line playing during Drew McIntyre's ring entrance on this week's episode of WWE Raw was, indeed, a production issue.
That Cole could be heard while McIntyre made his way to the ring was initially taken as WWE failing to edit commentary out of a piped-in audio track. Understandable, given how the promotion has continued sweetening crowd reactions since leaving the ThunderDome and returning to the road, but the audio clip used was quickly identified in a Roman Reigns vs. John Cena SummerSlam video package.
Fightful's report notes that Drew inquired about the situation himself, having seen the online reaction.
McIntyre is currently feuding with former 3MB stablemate Jinder Mahal on Raw. This week's show saw him face Mahal's sidekicks, Veer and Shanky, in a 2-on-1 handicap match, which ended in a disqualification when Jinder attacked his fellow former WWE Champion with a chair.
Drew brought in his sword, Angela, after the bell, swinging at the heels. This prompted all three to take their leave, though Shanky was briefly left at McIntyre's mercy as he pointed him down with the deadly blade.
