Brock Lesnar's WWE SummerSlam Matches Ranked - From Worst To Best

By Jamie Kennedy /

4. Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock (2002)

Brock Lesnar's first ever showing on SummerSlam lives long in the memory, but not due to superior match quality. Tangling with The Rock, 'The Next Big Thing' would win his first ever WWE World Title during the match, making history in the process. At the time, Lesnar became the youngest ever WWE World Champion, something which would later be usurped by Randy Orton. The bout itself was fine, but Brock wasn't quite the perfectly-honed performer he would become later. In the Summer of 2002, he was simply raw and intense, and credit for carrying this SummerSlam '02 main event must surely go to Dwayne Johnson. Lesnar played his part, in fairness, and the match felt like a landmark moment in WWE history. Looking to move on from stars such as Steve Austin and even The Rock himself as World Champions, Brock Lesnar was WWE's choice to lead a new generation. As huge a moment as this would prove to be in WWE folklore, both men have had much better main event matches. For Brock Lesnar specifically, better things were to come on the SummerSlam stage. It's actually a shame that Lesnar couldn't tangle with The Rock at a later date, because he's a much more well-rounded WWE performer today than he was in 2002.
