Cain Velasquez Released On Bail: Ex-WWE & UFC Man Heads Home
Cain Velasquez is back at home after being released on a $1 million bail this week.
Cain Velasquez has been released on a $1 million bail after spending eight months in prison following his arrest on attempted murder charges in February.
The Wrestling Observer writes that Velasquez's bail was a product of 13 hours' worth of pre-trial hearings stretched across two days. The former WWE and UFC star faces up to 70 years in prison, having been charged with first-degree attempted murder, multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting an occupied motor vehicle, and others.
California police took Cain into custody after he fired at a car containing Harry Eugene Goularte and Paul Bender. Bender was hit by a bullet, necessitating his hospitalisation with non-life-threatening injuries.
Velasquez allegedly pursued Goularte and Bender's vehicle in an "eleven-mile, high-speed chase" prior to the shooting. Goularte has previously been charged with sexually assaulting an underage relative of Velasquez, with Cain claiming later that his four-year-old son had also been assaulted.
Cain Velasquez Pleads Not Guilty
The former UFC Heavyweight Champion entered a plea of not guilty in August. Judges had previously denied him bail on four separate occasions, doing so out of fear of retaliation against Goularte.
The 40-year-old is still awaiting a date for his trial. While on bail, Cain will be made to wear a GPS tracker and come no more than within 300 yards of those who were in the vehicle, while also complying with other conditions relating to weapon carrying, counselling, and more.
Velasquez's attorney, Mark Geragos, commented:-
