Former WWE wrestler Cain Velasquez has been arrested without bail in San Jose, California following an alleged shooting on Monday afternoon.

Per the San Jose Police department, an adult male was shot and sent to a nearby hospital with "non-life-threatening injuries", while a suspect was detained and held in custody.

Later, NBA Bay Area reported on Velasquez's involvement in the situation. Though his exact role was unknown at the time, it has since emerged that the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was arrested and sent to Santa Clara County Jail, with records showing the 39-year-old was taken in without bail on 28 February.

Though more famous for his mixed martial arts career, having felled such opponents as Brock Lesnar during his run as the UFC's heavyweight king, Velasquez's most famous wrestling run kicked off when he debuted for WWE in October 2019. This was to start a program with Brock Lesnar, whom he was defeated by at Crown Jewel 2019 the following month.

This turned out to be Cain's final WWE match, as he was released by the promotion as a consequence of "budget cuts" in April 2020. Velasquez has since returned to the ring with AAA, wrestling at TripleMania Regia in December 2021.
