Paul 'Triple H' Levesque's June proclamation to the WWE Performance Center that he was "back" sparked speculation on the former NXT Executive Director's status in the developmental brand, coming, as it did, shortly after his return to work following near-fatal heart failure.

That speculation can now cease. In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that although nobody knew what Triple H saying he was "back" meant at the time, he has not been working directly with NXT since returning to WWE.

Meltzer corroborated PWInsider's recent report that Shawn Michaels is currently running NXT with a small creative team. Currently, Triple H is not even attending NXT 2.0 television tapings on Tuesday evenings.

Triple H, 52, suffered life-threatening heart failure in September 2021, hospitalising him. The wrestler-turned-executive was fitted with a defibrillator following this. It wasn't until April 2022 that he appeared on-camera again, first at NXT's Stand & Deliver event on the 2nd, then again during WrestleMania 38's second part the following night.

NXT, meanwhile, has undergone a full-on transformation in Triple H's absence, going from black-and-gold super-indie to a broader, heavily-gimmicked developmental as NXT 2.0.
