The fiasco surrounding Shane McMahon’s departure from WWE in the wake of the Royal Rumble debacle continues to be the gift that keeps on giving for those who revel in the absurd.

For those not keeping track, Shane was “quietly let go” from the company on Wednesday due to tremendous backstage heat for his role in producing the men’s Rumble match – and trying to make himself the center of attention. It also has been reported that there were plans for Shane to compete inside the Elimination Chamber, leading to a WrestleMania match against Seth Rollins.

Now, Fightful Select has reported more on this ongoing saga, citing sources close to the Rumble match. The report states that Shane-O-Mac “specifically wanted to go on in a spot that would highlight him, with one even mentioning that he pitched the #1 spot.” But none other than Vince McMahon himself shot that down and ruled out many of the ideas the younger McMahon pitched.

The report also notes that Vince “wasn’t happy” about Shane’s plans when he learned about them, as was Brock Lesnar. However, Shane apparently was intent on pushing for his plans, which didn’t come to fruition.

Humorously, the Fightful Select report also notes that Shane originally was supposed to enter the Rumble at #29, with Randy Orton joining the match at #28. Those numbers got reversed, and sources said that Shane “reacted hastily,” with Orton telling McMahon that he wouldn’t be entering to “Here Comes the Money,” so the Best in the World needed to get out there when #28 came up.

At this rate, little would surprise if more details trickled out about this bizarre situation.
