Vince McMahon may have won the 1999 Royal Rumble, but it was Stone Cold Steve Austin who was the real star of the show. Of course, this Rumble match took place during the heyday of McMahon/Austin, and the feud was taken up to another level here when a $100,000 bounty was placed on Austins bald head by Vinny Mac. As such, Stone Cold had a target on his back and spent the entire Rumble fighting off McMahons cronies both in and out of the ring. Starting at #1, Austin would soon end up taken out by The Corporation before making a triumphant return later on in the match, although hed ultimately get distracted by The Rock and eliminated by McMahon. The Rumble match itself was certainly a mixed bag. As a spectacle, it was a hot match due to the Austin and McMahon stuff, but this also led to a little too many shenanigans and cutaways from the main in-ring Rumble action. Regardless, Austin was the main attraction here and it was his performance that held the match together.
