First Ever AEW Women's Main Event Announced: Britt Baker Vs. Thunder Rosa
Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker meet in an Unsanctioned Lights Out match next week!
All Elite Wrestling booked its first ever women's main event last night, announcing that Britt Baker will face Thunder Rosa in an Unsanctioned Lights Out match to close next week's St. Patrick's Day Slam special.
This comes following the two rivals' latest throwdown on last night's episode of Dynamite. Having previously defeated Rosa one-on-one at Beach Break in February, Baker got the better of Rosa on Wednesday night, despite the former NWA Women's Champion being on the winning side of their six-woman tag.
Struck down by Rebel's crutch, Rosa was rendered unconscious by Baker's deadly Lockjaw finisher, setting up next week's main event. This came just four days after Baker and Maki Itoh defeated Rosa and Riho on the Revolution 2021 Buy In pre-show.
Tony Khan confirmed in his post-Revolution media scrum that AEW's women would main-event Dynamite "very soon." He wasn't lying.
The Unsanctioned Lights Out stipulation has become one of AEW's signatures, with the most famous example being Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega's Full Gear 2019 headliner. A staple in the Florida territory decades ago, it is essentially a default main event, as the original idea (in the '60s, '70s', and '80s) was for the bout to go down once the show was officially over, with the house lights turned off.
